Sunday May 29th
We were able to attend church close to our campground. That small branch was the friendliest of any ward yet!!
Sad to leave Cape Cod behind but onto our next adventure. I wish I could describe how beautiful it was! If you drive the one main road, that goes up the center, all you see is green & homes & businesses tucked in the foliage. You have to get off the road in each town to really see it. Most places you even have to get off to see the beaches. It's not too commercial. It was very pretty!
Steve & I have seen Plymouth Rock before. It is hard finding parking in a small town with crowds of people, so we went out to the Pilgrim Monument. It was dedicated to the Pilgrims after being finished in 1889. I'm going to use the actual description below:
On the main pedestal stands the heroic figure of "Faith" with her right hand pointing toward heaven[5] and her left hand clutching the Bible. Upon the four buttresses also are seated figures emblematic of the principles upon which the Pilgrims founded their Commonwealth; counter-clockwise from the east are Morality, Law, Education, and Liberty. Each was carved from a solid block of granite, posed in the sitting position upon chairs with a high relief on either side of minor characteristics. Under "Morality" stand "Prophet" and "Evangelist"; under "Law" stand "Justice" and "Mercy"; under "Education" are "Youth" and "Wisdom"; and under "Liberty" stand "Tyranny Overthrown" and "Peace". On the face of the buttresses, beneath these figures are high reliefs in marble, represenrepresenting scenes from Pilgrim history. Under "Morality" is "Embarcation"; under "Law" is "Treaty"; under "Education" is "Compact"; and under "Freedom" is "Landing". Upon the four faces of the main pedestal are large panels for records. The front panel is inscribed as follows: "National Monument to the Forefathers. Erected by a grateful people in remembrance of their labors, sacrifices and sufferings for the cause of civil and religious liberty." The right and left panels contain the names of those who came over in the Mayflower.

The other place of interest to us was Burial Hill. Some of these we were related to. Luckily they already had children they brought who survived & carried forth the family line.
A couple of pics of Plymouth Harbor. I didn't see the Mayflower II. If you come to Plymouth it is a must see. We did it with our kids. They wear costumes & tell stories.
We headed North, trying to avoid Boston by going around. There was still traffic on Memorial Day Sunday but it could have been much worse!
We have done Boston before & Salem, but you definitely have to do them if you're there.
We drove to Salem Massachusetts to our campground at Winter Island. This was the campsite where we got drenched due to a hurricane in South Carolina 7 years ago.
Monday, May 30th
The weather was sunny & warm this time!
The Lighthouse is at the campground.
We went to three graveyards in Massachusetts to see about some of Steve's relatives. Unfortunately, like everywhere else, the sandstone markers are unreadable.
We struck out all around!!
We headed out of Massachusetts & into southeastern New York near Albany. We stayed overnight at Schodack Island State Park. Everyone of these State Park campgrounds make me wish I could stay longer & enjoy the beauty!!
As you can see, this is a very short blog.
I will bring you up to date on Sean. When he went back in the hospital after his second fall,(not alcohol related) he didn't physically injure his hip. We all thought it was a broken leg but he had a pin in his hip.
He was in terrible pain though. On top of that he had to have his baby toe removed on his good leg. He had a bad staph infection & it was black.
He came home after 3 days. He thought he was going to have to go back to rehab but then he started feeling better. He has physical therapy coming Wednesday.
That is the sad thing about this trip. I have been feeling so guilty that I am not the one helping him. My friends have been picking him up, getting his rx, taking things to him when he was in rehab & taking care of the cat. Even cleaning up the house. I have hired someone to come Wed.to do a good cleaning.
I worked so hard planning this trip & spent money reserving everything I could. I do not think Steve or I are physically up to doing it another year. I warned Sean when we left I wasn't coming home early if he overdrank & fell.
I am just grateful for friends!! I call Sean every day to get an update. There have been many days I have been so discouraged & it has been so stressful for me. It has put a damper on this trip & I worry so much about him. Such are the joys of parenthood!
We have about 40 days left & I hope to enjoy them more!
Love you all!
