KY to W VA to VA in 24 hours

I told you how we miraculously drove by the KOA & camped, instead of driving through the storm for 2 more hours. This morning, as we were pulling out. I gave Steve the directions. He was totally flummoxed, because we should have been heading in the other direction last night at the gas station.

You can call it what you will, but we definitely  believe we were being protected. That we should stop!

To head to West Virginia, we practically had to go to Lexington anyway. We didn't stop to see the horses though. What we did stop to see was BUC-EE'S!!

Wow!  What a superstore! This one opened 3 weeks ago & there were hundreds of people inside. They are known for their sugared nuts, their beef  brisket, & fudge.

We said yes to the brisket & the fudge, no to the nuts because you have to draw the line somewhere!

There are aisles & aisles of souvenirs & gifts. There is sporting goods & clothes & about everything imaginable.

I found out about them because I watch RV couples on U Tube. This is a big southern thing!

Our goal was to get to New River Gorge which is a fairly new National Park. The NP campgrounds are primitive & at the south end of the park. We would be at the north end. Because we battled rain all the way, & ended up on this terribly curvy road where we saw ourselves coming & going, we decided to stop.

We found a campground that we thought would have better camping spaces. We were concerned about the primitive camping site roads.

We went where Google sent us. Turns out Google was wrong! There were two of the same campground on maps. We took the one where we ended in this semi residential area on a one lane road.

Ask Steve about getting in a tight spot. Thank goodness our trailer is little!

We didn't get to church Sunday because church was about 2 hours down the Gorge & we got up late. The rain keeps putting us behind!

I made comment to Google to remove that one & use the other address across the highway. I can't imagine a large trailer going there! I found a review where someone complained about the gps.

He hooked up the electric & cable & took a nap. So we spent a long evening in bed & he got to watch some TV. I think I spend 1/2 of my little spare time doing the blog, especially waiting on photos to upload.

Sunday- Mothers Day

The visitor center at New River Gorge told the story of the development of the coal mines. 80 coal towns in the early 1900's were built along the Gorge. The boom for coal ended by the 1960's. Of course there are still coal mines& coal processing.

Our next stop was the Frontier Cultural Center in Staunton, VA. This was a really fun & interesting museum. There were several groups of settlers in that area of Virginia. The slaves from West Africa. the Indians, the English, the Scotch Irish & the Germans.

Each culture had their own area with  very long walks between. This is also a working farm.

The West Africans where he entertained us with the drums.

The English. They talked about combing the wool.

The Irish. First was the forge, where he exhibited the tools made in the towns.

Each of these houses were sent from their homelands & this was a sod house.

Next was an Irish farmhouse. He showed the Irish Linen & clothing repair that some did on the side to earn passage to the US.

Germans were next.

This guy was a German tailor.

This was a really nice German home. They would not have wool in the house. This is just for display.

Next was the Indian village

Finally, pioneer cabins.

The school.

So this was really long. We stopped & got a Pizza for dinner. Hope you all had a Happy Mother's Day.
