Mystic Seaport, the Denison House & More Genealogy.

Monday we got out of the trailer after Steve did a couple of things. It's always something with an RV!

We went to visit the Denison Homestead which both Steve & I are related to. And they were Mayflower Passengers!!

Google said it was open. Of course like everything else it wasn't. We looked through a couple of windows that weren't covered.

The nature center that was on the property was open & we got to see lots of creatures!

We actually got to have another picnic lunch at a park. Then we stopped by "The Seventh Day Baptist Church of Pawcutuck. This one is not used now. This may have possibly been the one Joseph Clark preached at.

We also went to 2 cemeteries. Wow, what an exciting day huh. But hang on because tomorrow is more interesting!

Our neighbors at Fisherman's Memorial Cg were all friendly. My map of the US & Canada is almost done. Everyone loves that I did that. We also get a lot of conversation starters & pictures of our trailer.

Steve was able to have a nap & then was able to hook everything up while I BBQd
chicken legs. Our last 3 nights were no hookups so it's nice to have those!!

Tuesday, 24th

Our adventure today is Mystic Village. It had a very nice museum on whaling. Steve also got to get on a couple of boats. There was a very cute village & then we took a little boat ride with a very knowledgeable captain, all around Mystic Harbor where we saw all manner of boats.

A Fire Boat

A Viking Boat that came from Norway & above that is a 3 Masted Schooner.

Tug Boat with water cannons

The Joseph Conrad. Used as a training ship.

Charles W Morgan

This is the only wooden Whale ship in the world. It is called the Charles W. Morgan. It was made in 1841. After 80 years it was a museum ship in 1921. Mystic Seaport got it in 1941. It was not totally restored till 2008 & in 2014, sailed to several whaling harbors. Work goes on even now.

We went to a museum dedicated to whaling.
Whaling was a very big enterprise until after World War II Many species had totally been killed off.

Many whalers would be gone 2-3 years. Wives would run the home & take care of everything. They didn't know if the men would come back. It could be months at sea without spotting a whale.

The Mystic Village

The medicine shop or pharmacy. So many little bottles of medicine!

The school & the church

Demonstration of a harpoon. This building was a Blacksmith for ship tools.

Inside the little lighthouse were two movies on lighthouses. This lighthouse is small because they used it only for the harbor.

1 of 5 whale boats kept on the Whaling Ships.

These were some fancy sail boats.

Across Mystic River Harbor. If you enlarge the photos you can see some of the fancy homes.

We did laundry & then went to Mystic Pizza.
Some of you may have heard of the movie of the same name. This was a 1988 story of 3 waitresses. The author was staying in the area & got inspired to write the story.

Mystic Pizza became very popular after the movie! This is Mystic Pizza
