Gettysburg

Friday, May 13th

The day Steve has been waiting for finally came. The place is very large. First we went to the Visitor center. We bought tickets there for a movie about Gettysburg narrarated by Morgan Freeman.

Then we went to the Cyclorama. It is like the one in Georgia but painted with the Gettysburg battle. As they tell the story there are explosions in the different areas.

After we had time to walk around the cyclorama when the presentation was over, it was time to go through the museum.

We spent almost 3 hours between the movie, cyclorama & the Museum. It was really educating! Just open up your pictures so you can see everything.

That palm tree is called a Palmetto & was S.C.
flag.

A nod to the Calvary

We took our lunch break & ate at Pike's Restaurant & Tap house.

Steve went inside the Battlefield Military Museum while I worked on my blog.

Then we did the auto tour.

There are 16 stops. There must be a hundred or more regiment monuments. Keep in mind you have calvary, artillery & infantry from many states.

This was where the Battle of Gettysburg started at the Mc Pherson farm behind the barn.

Eternal Light Peace Memorial.

we

Several monuments, ridges & battlefields.

This was a reenactment probably put on for the tour buses.

We stopped for a break at Dairy Queen.

Steve visited one more private Museum.
It was the Gettysburg Museum of History.

Then we went to the National Cemetery.
We didn't stay too long because it was raining. We drove back to our camp in the rain. It was a very light rain.

The Lincoln Statue at the top of the blog was here at the Cemetery.
These rock walls were all over. I think they built them around the Civil War time for protection, so the soldiers could lay behind there & shoot.

I almost forgot. This train station has been rebuilt, but Lincoln came in on the train. The
station was used for supplies & evacuation of the wounded.

He came in Nov. 18th. He actually gave the Gettysburg address some yards from the picture.
