The Road to Tara & Atlanta History

We left Chewacla Falls Campground. A very pretty campsite near Auburn Alabama. We went from warm to chilly once we left the bayou's.

Sorry I don't have a waterfall pic. We found out it was a 3 mile hike round trip. So we struck out on the Road to Tara. This little museum in Jonesboro GA. is everything "Gone With the Wind"

We lost an hour we discovered, so I guess we are now on Eastern time in Georgia. Between gas stops & lunch we only had about 1 1/2 hours at the Atlanta History Museum.

This beautiful Cyclorama depicts the Battle of Atlanta. It's so amazing because at the top it is a painting & at the bottom there are real statues & cannons.

They had a film on making the Cyclorama

They have the Locomotive "Texas" because Atlanta had the money to restore it. It was in a Disney movie in 1956. It was built in 1856
The movie was "The Great Train Chase" This is a true story about some US Govt. spies that seize a train (called the General) to wreck bridges & supply lines of the Confederates. The Texas was used by the Confederates to catch up & destroy the other train.
The train has been restored a few times.

The other big attraction was the Swan House
This beautiful home portrays life in the 1920-30s. The lady who owned the home as well as her mom were involved with the women's Suffrage movement throughout the years prior to the 19th amendment in 1919.

There was a display upstairs all about the movement.

Pictures of the home.

We had traffic going into Atlanta downtown as well as traffic heading north out of the city. We went 27 miles in over an hour. We stopped at Sonny's BBQ & had beef brisket BBQ sandwiches. Ya' gotta have some of that bbq when you are down south!

About an hour later our nerves were settled.
We talked to Sean & he is now at Red Cliffs Rehab. We had a pretty nice drive to Fort Yargo. Look at this view. Our campsite is on the lake. It's a shame we can't be here longer, but the days roll along & so do we.

  1. Lovely view at that campsite 🏕- loved the GWTW museum - was named after the Melanie in that movie & what a beautiful home, even by todays standards! Yes Atlanta traffic at the wrong time can get anyone anxious for sure - stay safe & hope you’re feeling better 🌸
