New Orleans

New Orleans. We came, we saw, we walked, & then we got smart & we took the cable cars. Our first day, Tuesday, we tried to fit in as much as we could.

We started the day at Cafe Beignet with the famous Beignet with a chocolate drizzle. They are delicious!! Lots of powdered sugar!

A walk through Jackson Square

The park's namesake for Andrew Jackson.

The beautiful St. Louis Cathedral.

This statue was dedicated to the Pope's 2nd visit.

The Presbytere Building was a very interesting museum that was all about Hurricane Katrina & a couple of others.
What was so sad that 100,000 people were displaced & had no transportation out.

This building was the Cabildo which was another museum.

We walked all over the French Quarter.

& a long, long way down Bourbon Street.

We had Po'Boys sandwiches for lunch at the French Market. Next we headed down the riverfront to The Old Mint which is now also a Jazz Museum on the Trolley red line.

A couple of machines used in the process of minting coins. Steve enjoyed this museum since he is a coin collector.

Our next sojourn was to the St. Charles trolley Green line. It goes clear through the Garden District which has many mansions, churches & schools. Unfortunately my phone was running low, so I captured what I could without turning it back on & off. Since these pics were all captured from the trolley they are a bit crooked.

They were beautiful but it was a very long trolley ride!!

The parking is all in lots & it cost us about     $50. to park 10 hours.

We decided on a restaurant on Bourbon St called Olde Nola Cookery. I wanted to eat something local. I had the Cajun chicken & rice. Steve had some BBQ ribs. We only had to stand in line about 20 minutes.

I was a little disappointed during the day. I expected to hear Jazz bands. Nighttime the place started jumping. Street bands & even a little parade!! It really came alive!

My hot spot isn't doing well so I will send another blog post tomorrow
