From Lake Huron to Lake Superior
Sunday 5th.
We left the Ranger Bay campground & drove to Sudbury for church. Another very small ward & very welcoming.
We are heading up to Sault St. Marie area. We followed the east coast of Lake Huron. I believe after Lake Superior I have seen all 5 Great Lakes.
We camped south of Sault St. Marie in Echo Bay. Nothing exciting but the mosquitos & No See Ums were out in force!
Monday June 5th
Sault has a big Canal. It is on Lake Superior. We got to Canal Park & the rain was pouring down hard. We would have been soaked. Sorry, no Canal pics.
We set out to see Crystal Falls & Minnehaha Falls. The rain had stopped but after driving on the forest road that both falls were on, Steve didn't want to pull that trailer through the massive mud puddle. As we turned around, it started to rain again anyway. Out of our whole 2 months this is about the only time rain has kept us from doing something!
Who needs canals & waterfalls when you can have Wawa Goose & Winnie the Pooh & whatever First Nation's thing that was!
We went to A&W for dinner. My root beer came in a cup no ice. I asked for some ice & they don't have a dispenser! My biggest gripe with Canada. Restaurants & stores & gas stations keep bottles in a cooler. No beverage dispensers let alone Dr. Pepper!
We stayed at White Lake Provincial Park. The mosquitos were so bad we practically ran from the car into the trailer. I have been wearing long pants, long sleeves & usually a jacket so they get me on my hands & face. The problem is that I swell up from the bites & am allergic to the bug spray!
Steve killed 10 mosquitos in the trailer in the morning. We were attacked pretty good!
June 7th Tuesday
Some other pretty pics of Lake Superior along the way. We stopped for a picnic at a scenic site but no tables. Ate in the car!
So I have to tell you my Canadian Border Story. We literally stayed in New York 3 days in case we had to have a Covid Test.
However, when I filled out the Arrive CAN ap & sent our shot records up it said we were fully immunized & didn't need a test or to quarantine. We crossed June 3rd. On June 6th I get an e mail saying I had been chosen for random testing & I should have done it within 24 hours of crossing the border.
Here we are in the wilds of Ontario with no testing facilities. I called & was told to call a lab. I was told by that lab since I crossed after June 1st I had to call another lab. I waited over 30 minutes with no answer. I tried their e mail only to find it was an auto e mail address.
I wanted somebody to know I needed more time because I wasn't told at the border. I registered online. I found out there were 2 testing facilities in Thunder Bay where we would be late today & I could do it tomorrow.
We went to Kakabeka Falls. I think this is the first time I've seen yellow rocks.
We went into a drugstore to buy Raid for inside the trailer. I also bought some repellant with a powder base they tried on me. No rash!
We camped at Kakabeka Falls Campground.
