Erie Canal & other Rochester Sites

June 1st

On our way to Rochester, we had a picnic at Senaca Lake. This is one of a few lakes in the Finger Lake region of New York. It was a beautiful drive!! All the small towns seem to have had their heyday in the early 1900's.

We went to our campground at Niagara Hartlands. This is aptly named because it is the heartland of upper New York. Farms everywhere & beautiful!!

The rain poured like crazy on our way & then while I was doing laundry. The highlight of our day was going out for pizza!!

June 2nd, Thursday

Off to the big town of Rochester. First was High Falls.

Rochester downtown was full of old abandoned industrial buildings probably built from 1920's to 1940's. You can see some behind the Falls.

Note the Kodak building.

Does anyone nowadays know Kodak?

Next was the Erie Canal. First we walked on a tow path. Then we went to a park which was called The Old Erie Canal.

I don't know if this cabin was originally built at the time of the Erie Canal, but it looked old

I am fascinated by this, because I had some McNerlin's who worked on the Ohio portion of the canal.Canal. This was Lock 62.

Our last outing of the day were two lighthouses. First was the Charlotte Genesee.

Some info on the lighthouse & the harbor in the war of 1812. You can read if you're interested.

We had to chase the Rochester Harbor Light
because as usual it was impossible to get to!

I'm going to end because it has taken 2 1/2 hours to upload in the wilds of Canada & my battery is out. Tomorrow will be about Niagara Falls.
