Perils of the Pike's

When we got to Flagstaff Monday night it started raining & a little snow mix. ❄️ This happened all night. I was sure we would be stuck in Flagstaff.

Steve hooked up our electric & the heater didn't work. So we froze but survived. He thought maybe the heater only runs on propane but he hadn't hooked up our tank. Soup in the microwave was dinner.

The snow started coming down Tuesday AM so we were glad to put Flagstaff in the rear view mirror. We had snow, slush, hail & almost constant rain but it was a long ride through the desert & not worrisome at 60mph for our car.

So to top it off, I had back spasms all day. It really hurt to sit! This wasn't the part of my back that I got shots in. I took a muscle relaxer & a 1/2 pain pill so I hope to sleep tonight as I have been terribly sleep deprived!

Some of you might remember the TV series "F Troop" We stopped at Fort Courage in Houck, New Mexico.

The next pictures are of the Gallup Murals depicting the people & the history of the area. We were disappointed that the Navajo Code Talkers Museum from the 2nd World War is permanently closed. I think Covid did it in.

This is the  El Rancho Hotel which is a National Historic Site & is still running.

Last is one of the large muffler man, cowboys & lumberjack statues featured all through Route 66.

We traveled about 4 hours today. We camped at a nice City campground called Red Rock Park & hope it is not so cold or miserable that we can't take a hike.

Good news! Steve got the propane on & the heater is working great!!! The refrigerator is also running fine on propane & electricity. So we are now problem free & just need to figure the batteries out. I ❤️  being warm!! We had a nice dinner in the trailer now that I can cook on my stove!!

Why are we leaving so early in the year, you might ask? We are hitting the South soon & it gets very warm & humid even by April. We also were trying to avoid the lower states tornado season, but as you can see they all got hit just last week!! It's been continuous.

Next is the  south & east Coast which isn't normally bothered by hurricanes in May. with us, you never know!!  ๐Ÿ˜Š

That's it for tonight! My "drug addled" self is going to bed! ๐ŸŒ™
